With the New Year upon us it is time to look ahead to the many diverse and fascinating events and activities that the Island has in store for us. The Isle of Wight is justifiably known as the Island of Festivals. From the legendary and award winning Isle of Wight Festival to the gentle, peaceful Healing Festival held in the wonderful Botanical Gardens, the Island plays hosts to festivals of every stripe the summer long and beyond, catering for all tastes and interests.

Family Festivals

Families with small children are well catered for too with a fair number of our festivals being particularly child friendly. But there is much more to the Island than the internationally celebrated Isle of Wight Festival and Cowes week.

So after a few days relaxing at Farringford, enjoying our beautiful gardens, sunbathing by the pool, and perhaps taking in a few rounds of golf or a game of tennis, you will want to sample this annual celebration of Island life. For those who prefer not to venture far I have chosen a few of the best within easy reach of Farringford. Don’t forget that we can provide a picnic conveniently packed for you in one of our rucksacks. Our team on reception will be very happy to organise this for you.

The Isle of Wight Walking Festival – The Island springs to life in May with the biggest walking festival in the UK and Europe. The Isle of Wight is one of the UK’s designated Areas of outstanding Natural Beauty, and with the festival’s fantastic variety of walks, through a number of different locations including beautiful and unspoilt West Wight; there is no better way to appreciate it.

Walking Festival

Old Gaffers Festival – This takes place in the picturesque harbour town Yarmouth, from the 30th May to 1st June. The harbour will be filled with the visiting gaff rigged vessels and some will race on Saturday. A fun filled weekend of entertainment and interesting things to see and do with the whole family is guaranteed.

The Rhythmtree World Music Festival – 18th to 20th July. Now in its fourth year this independent world influenced music festival is situated on beautiful farmland close to the famous West Wight Heritage Coast, and is renowned for being the Island’s family friendliest festival.

Over the next few weeks I shall be exploring each of these festivals in depth starting with Walk the Wight which kicks off in May. If a festival takes your fancy, or for example you are interested in taking part in a few of the many walks of our famous Walking Festival, it is a good idea to book and plan ahead.
